THOUGHTS ON ART, BUSINESS AND THE INTERNET

"Art is a business"  an article in the Guardian states in an interview with the artist Amanda Palmer.

So in order to run a successful business I feel I need to approach my art work in the same way I helped those in creative industries when I work for University of London onLondon Fusion and one aspect of engagement is by the use of social media.

My favourite researcher and writer on the social and economic effects of Internet technologies is Clay Shirkey, Assistant Arts Professor in the New Media focused graduate Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP). (I have two of his books signed by him I may add.) His writings are insightful and his delivery easy to follow.

Here Clay Shirkey at TED is talking about how...

"The open-source world has learned to deal with a flood of new, oftentimes divergent, ideas using hosting services like GitHub -- so why can’t governments? In this rousing talk Clay Shirky shows how democracies can take a lesson from the Internet, to be not just transparent but also to draw on the knowledge of all their citizens."
